DARSOMBRA
(10/23/06) - On Nov 17, 1558 Queen Mary I of England died, was succeeded by her half-sister Elizabeth I of England, and what is now referred to as the "Elizabethan era" began. On November 17, 2006, 448 years later, the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival will host an evening of experimental and rock music in their Elizabethan playhouse, St. Mary's.The evening will feature feature performances from Darsombra (Baltimore, MD), Members of the Press (Omaha, NE) & Planet Y (Philadelphia, PA). 16mm film and slide projections will accent the performances to fully make use of this amazing, multi-media, performance space. St. Mary's is not a club or a hall, but a church which has been converted for performance. The original stone and stain glasswork are intact and the ambience of this historic venue will add to and become a part of the evenings performances. More info. to be found here.

BLACK COBRA
(04/25/06)
- Black Cobra's Bestial is officially
released today. We should have it available for all you
that love using those evil pieces of plastic in a couple of days. I am currently
poking a employee of Stickfigure
Inc. with a pointy stick but for some reason he is not waking up to
help move this process along. Request it from your local indie store or
purchase it from your favorite indie mailorder!
Black Cobra also begins their tour with Torche
today! Dates are here. L.A. and San
Diego we know you are cheap bastards. Your shows are free.
Look for Black Cobra to be on the road throughout summer! Buy stuff from them! Bring them food / drink! Rocking the fuck out of you every night requires sustenance!
DARSOMBRA
(04/13/06) - You can see Darsombra on the road starting tomorrow till the beginning of May. Dates can be found here.
BLACK COBRA
(04/13/06) - There has been some last minute changes to the LA date with Torche and Akimbo and a San Diego date has been added to the tour. Tour info can be found here.
DARSOMBRA
(04/13/06) - Erik Thomas of Digital Metal interviews Darsombra here.
SWARM OF THE LOTUS
(04/12/06) - From the SOTL HQ:
Hello all, been a while since we've had an update to report from our neck of the woods but we have great news!! We would like to announce the addition of two brand new members of the band:
Greg
Howell (ex-Cardea)-guitar
Graham Millner (ex-Everything Falls Together)-bass
This
brings our search for additional members to a close and fleshes the
band out completely and we couldn't be happier with the way it has panned
out. We are very excited to get back on track with playing shows, getting
back out on the road, recording and much more!! We would like to sincerely
thank everyone who inquired and came out to play with us over the past few
months. Everyone we saw was cool and were great players in their own right
and that just made our final decision even harder but in the end we feel
we have chosen the right people. Thank you to you all, you know who you
are!! We wish everyone the best with their future musical endeavors!!
We
are going to take the next couple of months to have a set come together,
which will include brand new material, and get everything honed to perfection
and ready to play live. Our tentative plan for the rest of the
year as we are seeing it now would be to start playing out locally again
on
some cool shows, one or two weekend warrior type of tours through the
summer, leading up to a 2-week tour or so in the Fall and then taking the
last part of the year to write material for a new realease (hopefully) next
year sometime.
DARSOMBRA
(04/07/06) - There is a awesome new website for Darsombra. It can be found here. Thanks go out to Patrick Walsh of Promesis Design for the work!
DARSOMBRA
(03/28/06) - Ecdysis is officially released today. We highly suggest trying to get your copy at your local favorite indie store. If they are not stocking it , ask them to stock it. They have hundreds of releases to go through ea. month and might not know to stock this one. If you can't wait for them to stock it or the store clerk is a major asshole then why don't you order from a cool mailorder like Public Guilt. Better yet go see Darsombra on tour this April and buy it direct from "the band"! Shows, mailorders, indie stores = FUN !
BLACK COBRA
(03/16/06)
- April is a busy month indeed for Black Cobra. The beginning of the month
will transform B.C from a East / West band to just a plain West Coast band
as Jason makes the journey from New York to LA. To celebrate this move they
will be doing a short 12 day tour beginning on April Fools Day. The end
of the month Black Cobra will be touring the West Coast with Torche and
Akimbo - fucking awesome! Dates can be found here.
Oh yeah and that equally awesome album, Bestial, will be hitting the streets
April 25th!!!
DAMAD
(03/16/06) - From Scott Cooper:
Do
what you can to make it to this one time only, no joking, (we really
mean it) DAMAD reunion show in beautifull
Savannah, Georgia in May.
All proceeds to go to Jack Control to assist him in his time of need.
Jack has been a friend and ally to all of us here at one time or
another..booking shows, putting out records, or giving a place to stay
over the years from our first bands to the present. Here
is the story
of what happened to Jack as reported by Ken of Prank records and I
reproduce it here to inform whoever has not heard the story yet..
Come
and hear the origins of the "Savannah Sound" one last time and
help a friend of the Punk comunity at the same time...cheers - scott,
victoria, phillip and cory
BLACK COBRA
(02/29/06) - Black Cobra will be touring the United States starting in April and ending late June with brief breaks in LA and Miami. SXSW
(02/22/06) - No ladies and gentleman there will be no At A Loss showcase at SXSW this year. We still just don't understand enough about the music industry. We are studying up on "industry lingo" now so when the time comes we will blend in with everyone there and not be so embarrassed. Using sentences such as "This band has a lot of buzz around them!" or "That band is totally hot!" should not be used by amateurs. The industry also informed me I need to start to use the word "extreme" all the time when describing the music I release. I was a fool to think Mountain Dew made that a worthless description. Your kicking sand in my face now big "music industry" but I will be back talking about my latest release's "endcap" in some shitty box store in no time!
While At A Loss Recordings might be "industry losers" our bands are still fucking awesome and will be at SXSW this year.

SWARM OF THE LOTUS
(01/12/06) - From the SOTL HQ:
SWARM OF THE LOTUS ANNOUNCE NEW DRUMMER:
SOTL would like to welcome drummer extraordinaire Jimmy Rhodes(ex-Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, current-All Else Failed, yes they are still together) to the fold. For the past month and a half, Jimmy and myself have been working together and things have been going amazing. He is a very talented individual and we welcome him with a warm heart to the SOTL family.
We are going through a reconstruction period right now, putting the band back together to get geared up and for touring and picking up with our regular schedule of things. This is where YOU could possibly come into play. See below:
SWARM OF THE LOTUS ISO NEW MEMBERS:
SOTL is in the process now of finding a new 2nd guitarist and bassist. The following is a list of musts/requirements:
-Must have a professional attitude and work-ethic, as this is something that the current members take seriously as something we want to pursue, take on the road, in the studio, etc.
-Must
have pro gear that will hold up to the wears and tears of the road.
(Our usual set-up is full-stack for each guitar, 8 x 10 for bass, sometimes
two 8 x 10s but not required)
-Being able to do additional vocals would be awesome but not required
-Must be ready, willing and able to TOUR at least a couple of times a year or more, depending on whatever opportunities arise, with each of these tours lasting anywhere from 1-2 weeks up to 4-5 weeks at a time.
-Must
be willing to commit to a regular practice schedule (twice a week
usually, for a couple of couple hours each time)
-Must
have an enthusiastic, energetic personality to pursue something that isnt
necessarily all that easy to do and this must be realized. If you
have tour experience, you understand this already. But this point must be
stressed. Bad tours will happen, as they do to all bands, and other
unexpected obstacles will come across the path that must be understood as
coming with the territory. If you already get this or are willing to accept
this, then cool, if not, please do not inquire.
-If you are not from the Baltimore or surrounding areas, you must be willing to relocate.
-Must
be funny and willing to put up with Jimmys and my own ridiculous
sense of humor, haha. Its all about having a good time anyway.
-Must bring the rock!!
-
If you think you meet all these requirements, then please inquire via email:
here
If
you are from out-of-state, we might ask you to send a video of your best
takes on some of our songs. Get in contact and we can provide an address
to which you can mail such a video. On that tip, this is not a dictatorship
and we realize that each musician is their own unique animal, with their
own individual playing style. Personal interpretation is fine as long as
it is evident that you can handle the material. If you would prefer to play
our songs exactly as they are heard recorded, thats cool too and can
be taught pretty easily. We even have video-tab available.
Being
an aggressive player, as this is the nature of our music, is always a
plus. Big, ugly and dirty!! Just bring it, thats all.Overall, for
whatever incarnation that lies ahead for this band, we are looking towards
the future. Meaning, the main focus will be on writing BRAND NEW MATERIAL
with the appropriate new members. We want to grow with whoever is going
to joining. Although we will be learning one set worth of older, previously
released material (approx. 8-9 songs between both of our
albums and the 7). Jimmy and I have actually started working on some
new songs and everything is sounding awesome!! We are very excited to bring
other people into the game and flesh out the rest of the band. Are you down?
In
closing, anybody who is or ever has been in a band that ever wanted to
take it further then the basement, you know the score. Please do not
inquire half-heartedly. This is an all or nothing kind of a gig. We have
our normal lives but this is something we actively pursue, that takes up
a
good portion of our time and energy because its what we love to do.
Serious candidates only please.
Bottom
line, we want it to be a fun, care-free environment above all, while
at the same time taken very seriously in respects of a touring schedule,
writing and recording music for future releases, etc. We are hoping to be
ready ASAP to get back out on the road sometime later this year.
For
all this, you can be sure to enjoy awesome times on the road, playing
awesome shows with amazing bands, recording records, as we are currently
signed
to ABACUS/CENTURY MEDIA REORDS, touring internationally (which is the next
and logical step for this band) and whatever other crazy fun that will come
into play as we continue on our journey.
Is
this you?

TUBE VISION

MINSK
(11/18/05) - The people at Rocksound magazine felt Minsk worthy of a feature in their fine publication. Check it out in issue 79 the Dec. 2005 edition. To make it even better, for you the reader, they included a Minsk track on a free c.d. that comes with the magazine. You can now read about the band as you listen to their music. The wonders of the modern world!
MINSK

DARSOMBRA
(10/21/05) - What a bunch of tech. savy bands! Darsombra is on my space now. Listen to sound and make friends or something along those lines.
STINKING LIZAVETA
(10/18/05) - Did you know Stinking Liz. is on My Space? Well I didn't until today. Nobody tells me nothing! Black Cobra knew before I did. You can now be friends. Doesn't that sound real nice?
MINSK
(10/14/05) - Adrien Begrand at Pop Matters just wrote a article about how it is not embarassing for indie kids to listen to metal right now and it had some very nice things to say about Minsk. You can read it here.
CAB / KYLESA
(10/14/05) - The CAB / Kylesa LP just had its 3rd pressing. This time it is on opaque orange vinyl - fun! Kylesa is heading out on tour with Torche and Coliseum - fun! You can find dates here. CAB members are scattered on the east coast. Dan is running Thunderdome booking, Tradd and David are making the world wide web a more interesting place and probably talking shit about someone, Mike and Ian are most likely drinking, drugging, or possibly sleeping after drinking and drugging, Derek is most likely having to deal with a lot of idiots but maybe saving a life or two in the process, Jay Piece played drums for Kylesa during the Euro. tour and will be playing drums for them on the upcoming one, and I am not really sure what Will is doing but I am sure he is happy I am not giving him instructions on how to back a van and trailer up on a icy road.
MINSK
(10/13/05)
- Overcoming power outages and unresponsive bartenders Minsk overwhelmed
even the jaded ears of At A Loss in DC a couple of weeks ago. New friends
were made, discussions of $2000 paintings decorating the walls were had
(we have standards you know), and Sanfords bass seemed to dislodge sections
of ceiling that were too weak to make the cut. Tails of low end mayhem,
and of the debauchery of the one called Tony Wyioming, followed the tour
that ended in Chicago.
Those in the Milwaukee area, or
traveling to it, are lucky indeed as you will be able to bear witness to
the event that is Minsk live. They will be playing Milwaukee
Fest this Friday Oct. 14th along with such greats as Milemarker, Asschapel,
Iron Lung and Sweet Cobra.

MINSK
(09/26/05) - Out Of A Center Which Is Neither Dead Or Alive is officially released tomorrow. Here's what those of the critical persuasion have thought of it so far:
Scott Alisoglu of Blabbermouth | Jan of Enough Fanzine | Erin Fox of The Gauntlet | Upchuck Undergrind of FishComCollective | Ray Van Horn, Jr of Live 4 Metal | Marcia of Hartboiled | Tony Belcher of Tartarean Desire Webzine | Dekompoze of Treehouse of Death | Ian Busch of PyroMusic.net
If your local indie record store is not carrying this fine release, be sure to let the clerk know they should. You can also order it online here.
STINKING LIZAVETA
(09/26/05) - Stinking Liz. will be heading out again on tour for a couple of weeks at the end of Oct. Dates can be found here. Still not convinced to go check them out live. Maybe Bill Ketzer of Albany's, NY weekly, Metroland, can convince you:
Phillys Stinking Lizaveta systematically decimated the place with their rich and remarkably comprehensive jazz of doom. Thats the only way I can describe it. Guitarist Yanni Papadopoulos, a dead ringer for a homeless and thirsty Cheech Marin, led brother Alexi on upright bass and Cheshire Agusta on drums into blissful atmospheric oblivion, as he leapt shirtless from the columns, howled into his pickups and basically held court for 40 minutes with a Zappa-esque fretboard assault. And Agusta handled the 5/4s with a graciousness that made me want to quit my job. All five of them.

Since being to chubby punk rock teenager to being a 32 year old whatever the fuck I am now, I could throw a Big Boys album on and brighten my day. There are not many bands I can think of that could do that, for that many years!!

(07/11/05) - Many moons ago a Minsk demo reached the office of At A Loss Recordings deep in the woods of Crownsville thanks to Brian of Meatjack / Darsombra fame. Contact was made and time passed. A new communication was conveyed to At A Loss by Rwakes own transmitter of low end - Reid. It indicated investigation of new sonic evolution by Minsk was mandatory! Eardrums were ruptured, contact was made, souls were sold, and now At A Loss Recordings is proud to annouce the release of Minsk's first full length Out of a Center Which is Neither Dead Nor Alive. The street date is August 30th of the year 2005. Interested in learning more. See what John Pegoraro of StonerRock.com had to say.

SWARM OF THE LOTUS
(03/10/05) - From the SOTL HQ:
"Abacus
Recordings is proud to announce the signing of Baltimores SWARM
OF THE LOTUS!
With their devastating mixture of boulder-cracking riffs and subtle musical
soundscapes, the four-piece made their mark most notably on the music world
last year with their debut record When White Becomes Black. Brandishing
an intensely heavy, down-tuned aural assault, it didnt take long for
overwhelming praise for the record to spread, including a feature in the
most recent issue of Revolver. The band hit the road and pummeled audiences
across the U.S. in support of the record while spending much of their time
writing for their Abacus Recordings debut. Recorded at Godcity Studios with
Kurt Ballou (Converge), the new record, titled The Sirens Of Silence, takes
the bands penchant for avalanche-sized cacophony to a whole new level.
Mastered by Alan Douches (A Life Once Lost, Burnt By The Sun) the new album
is set to be released this summer with massive touring planned throughout
the U.S. in support of the record."
KYLESA

(11/01/04) Uncle Dan's House of Smut says the following about Rwakes latest:
Many bands these days carelessly throw every style and genre they can think of into a blender in an attempt to falsely paint themselves as "innovative." However, there are a few such outfits out there coming from the right place, forging exciting new frontiers in sound. Rwake is at the very top of that elite class. Their second album, If You Walk Before You Crawl You Crawl Before You Die, has set a new benchmark for all metallic genre benders that follow.
